Who We Are

Augusta Water, formerly the Augusta County Service Authority (ACSA), was chartered in March 1966 to centralize the provision of water and sewer service to County residents. Our drinking water comes from several wells and springs across the County, the Coles Run Reservoir, and the City of Staunton. We maintain 10 separate water systems, including seven microfiltration treatments systems, and a water distribution network comprised of over 415 miles of water mains and more than 2,112 fire hydrants. We currently provide wastewater collection and conveyance through over 232 miles of mains, and treatment at four major facilities and five smaller facilities including the Middle River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is jointly owned by Augusta Water and the City of Staunton.

We are governed by a Board of Directors. Each member is appointed for a four-year term by the Augusta County Board of Supervisors. The Board of Directors holds monthly meetings that are open to the public at the Augusta Water Field Operations and Facility Maintenance building.

We also operate the Augusta Regional Landfill for Augusta County, the City of Staunton, and the City of Waynesboro. For more information on the Regional Landfill, please visit the Augusta Regional Landfill website.

Our System by the Numbers

We manage 10 separate water systems, including 7 microfiltration treatment systems and a large drinking water distribution network. If the water mains were stretched out end to end, their total length would be greater than the driving distance from Augusta County to New York City.

We also provide wastewater collection and conveyance from homes and businesses to our nine wastewater treatment facilities). On an average day, we treat around 6 million gallons of wastewater each day across our nine facilities, which is equivalent to around 9 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
